Dr. Badlove and the Remedies is a DC band, blending deep funk, hip-hop, dancehall riddims and go-go beats with live vocals, smooth electric guitar, bass, synthesizer rifts, and infectious digital drumming. Dr. Badlove consists of Washington groomed musicians multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Barrie Williams (formerly of DC based latin reggae/dancehall band Kickoman), drummer/vocalist Phil Marnell (formerly of The Originators DC ) & main vocalist/rapper Congressional Chorus’ (me) Chris Bulbulia (of Arts Action DC, and formerly of DC Music Download). Their music and dynamic performance style features live dancers, crowd participation, and afro-funk inspired “call and response, “provid[ing] the prescription to make you forget your worries and just want to have a good time.” From examinations of love and dance chemistry in “The Remedy,” and diverse vibrations in “Beats Can’t Done,” which includes a DC neighborhood “roll-call,” these Badlove brothers know how to make the music hit your soul. Their unique approach to multi-instrumental live looping has precedents, but no parallel!
Their self-published EP entitled “The Remedy” was released in February 2017, and was produced by Barrie Williams with music/lyrics by Chris Bulbulia, Phil Marnell & Williams. The EP was mixed and mastered by acclaimed British producer/mixer Yoad Nevo, known for his work with Sia, Pet Shop Boys, Goldfrapp, Sugababes, Air, Morcheeba & many more renowned artists. The Dr. Badlove logo was created by Venezuelan artist Le Yeko with “The Remedy” EP album art created by award-winning DC native Rose Jaffe. - Reviews & Interviews
